Hop out of the car and smell the rain! It was beginning to rain, after quite a few days of dry weather. God leads us through His creation. I had Isaac hop out of the car and breathe in the aroma. Why does rain have that distinctive aroma that drifts into our noses? We explore and discover so much!
It isn’t the rain itself we are smelling, but the ACT of the rain stirring up dormant particles of life that are sweetly drifting upward and into our noses. It is our acts of LOVE as Jesus’ act of LOVE that stirs up and causes a sweet smelling aroma to drift upward into the presence of God in the heavens.
Ephesians 5:2 says: “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”
What a beautiful study with both our boys, as Isaac was able to share some facts with his brother Max. Usually it’s the other way around.
Not only would they learn rich academics, but rich spiritual application. Not only that, but later in the week, we would be able to share this with someone else in our path and encourage as a choice was made to let go of something that had been dear, and realized it was not dear to God. Ready to sacrifice this unto the Lord, how we could say, this will certainly be a sweet smelling aroma that pleases the Father.
May we slow down and experience the life God has given us with each breathe we take in. As we sacrifice to busyness and wrong purposes and motives. Stop and smell, the flowers, stop and smell the effects of the rain, stop and embrace the children in our presence, the people around God has called us to love.
Catch the experiences of His creation. The connections that not only are rich in academics, but rich in relationship with God. One another. Rich in purpose for now and eternity.
