Delighting in the Lord! Just read an old Charles Spurgeon writing on the true Believer delighting in God.
I remember my son Maximus at a very young age taking great delight not only in God’s creation, but the true focus and delight, God the creator and Savior. I also recall a prominent moment in my son Isaac’s life when the Holy Spirit revealed the connection that was made, when we were walking through a parking lot one day and with excitement my son pointed to the Christian fish symbol on the back of a car as he knew that person was proclaiming they believed in Jesus!
We came home that day, as I was filled with delight in my son’s delight in Jesus! As well as he delighting in another who also delighted in Jesus. I pulled out ingredients, we made clay, and painted that day. We made clay fish, with the name of JESUS written on them. These are displayed prominently in our home in a shadow box. It’s a reminder, a testimony, to God’s great ability to open the eyes of hearts, to saving work of Jesus, a faith to a point of true belief, as one is in awe of God as creator and Savior!
And you know, God calls us to delight in Him. But the scripture also says, and how incredible it is, that He delights in His children.
May we know what a great price Christ Jesus paid to save us. Not just as a head knowledge, but heart transformation, wisdom that changes us from the inside out, to truly delight in JESUS.
This picture was taken the other day on a family day trip near Mt. St. Helens. My husband asked me to take a picture as we drove over this river. It was a wonderful day I take great delight in, as God granted us it, as a day to marvel in His creation, the gift of family, and the truth that Jesus Christ is our everything every day of our lives. Even on this trip, a moment of nit picky, sinner squabbling, over a lost moment, and bumpy terrain, hungry, and antsy, and immediately God’s grace swooped in, and leveled out our unpleasant moment, as we pressed on in love for God and one another, with joy.
I opened the bible this morning, and read these verses that brought me back to this picture.
We all know that, what God is preparing for us, His redeemed, is so awesome beyond what we see even in Creation here on this earth. We know that the Presence Of Jesus Christ without another war, or fear, or discomfort of any kind will be no more. We will dwell with Jesus and see Him, our beautiful Savior! And live with Him forever! And we delight in this!!
“There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us;The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah…
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!” Ps. 46:4-7 and 10
“Delight yourself in the Lord….” Ps. 37:4
“The Lord delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Psalms 147:4
Think about it. I delight in my children’s delight over God their Savior. I delight that the Holy Spirit draws sinners hearts to have eyes wide open to the great love and sacrifice God went to – to save me, to save them. I delight in seeing others eyes open as they delight in this TRUTH, LOVE, FORGIVENESS, GRACE, FAITH, MERCY. To see my children desire to grow in delight of the Lord, against the selfish and complacent tendency of the flesh- my DELIGHT.
And the Father in heaven. The Perfect Father, oh how His delight must be far beyond what we can perceive, when He sees His children delighting in Him and His wonderful works of Salvation.
He is awesome God.
