I took on a “third” son for a time today. God is so amazing!
Highlights of my solo errand running. When at Goodwill looking for another dress shirt and tie for my son Isaac, so he can have a variety for his ushering role at church,
I met a young man around age 30. He was looking at dress shoes, his father on the other side of store. A very humble young man, and very friendly.
I understood him. I get him. He was asking out loud for anyone who was walking by to help him figure out the shoe sizes. I stepped over to help.
He found one pair, “do you think I can wear this size 9, when I really wear a 10”? So, I looked, and spotted a really sharp pair of black shoes, size 10. I showed him.
I encouraged him they were very nice and his size. I told him I was shopping for my son, and if I was buying shoes,
I would definitely buy those for him. He was very excited. And told me “repetitively”, that he knew this brand, and they are very expensive when bought
brand-new, and very good quality shoes. He asked me then, “repetitively”, “did you get them from this spot here”?
Pointing each time to the empty space on the shelf. Again, I understand this. That unfilled space.
I answered each time, with a yes. He shook my hand, assuring me he was healthy, and germ free. I was not concerned.
I felt such honor. He told me his name. I told him that was also my sons name,
who I was shopping for. He asked how many sons I have, I told him two.
He thanked me again, and said GOD BLESS YOU. I returned the sentiments. He found his father,
and with joy put his new shoes in the cart, and told him how special these shoes were. They paid, and left.
That young man, he had it right. Humble means, confident. Unafraid. Friendly. Thankful. Joyful.
I have two sons. Isaac and Maximus. But today, for a few moments, I was blessed to step into the shoes of a mother of three sons.
What honor to meet this young man.
I sure wish more people would see simplicity, and humble means in the purity that it truly is.
I hope if and when my sons ever ask for help, when I may not be able to be with them at any given moment,
God will put others in their path who will extend to them that help. I have seen both-the ones who ignore and “walk on by” in living life, and those
“who have received them, accepted them, and shown them how much they are valued”. That has been a gift.
This young man may have needed help with shoes, but he offered much to the world around him.
The world needs what he has.
I know he added JOY to my day. His way is a gift from God. His way makes me think of how
it will be for all who live in the Kingdom of heaven.
Being openly friendly to strangers is not received well by most in this world. Kindness and relationship
without barriers will be the normal every second of every day forever with Jesus.
I look forward to this so very much.
