The calling of women. The calling of wife and mother includes so many roles within this blessed title. From season to season the vast variety changes, as well. I find it marveling lately how I seem to be supervisor to this “working crew” (aka) our sons. My husband head – lead man, giving the job duties for next day. While he is at work I oversee the job site, and our sons go to work.
It “WORX”! It really does! God designs Perfectly!
Now, we are all flawed human beings. Christ Jesus begins a good work the minute we repent and receive Him as Lord. We have been made RIGHTEOUS, through the WORK of the cross. Christ also promises to complete His work, until the day we meet Him. Which means this Salvation is an ongoing work He does in us.
“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” Phil. 1:6
Saved and being made new by the mercy and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. ” 2 Cor. 5:17
This old house is flawed. Yet it has had rich purpose for years! A major investment property, provision of God, to bless our family (and beyond) with me being in the heart of our home, investing into the eternal souls of our sons.
Our sons chipped away the old, are cleaning up the massive amount of waste, preparing to put on the “new”.
The call to every Christian. Christ Jesus paid it all, on the cross to save our souls. We have been given rich purpose. Rich heritage. We are not to live in the old life, accepting sinfulness (the flaws), but to live in newness of life. Christ Jesus chips away the old, cleanses us over and over, preparing us for our everlasting home with Him.
We really do not deserve the incredible grace of God, Who humbled Himself as The Suffering Servant, as the Great Sacrifice for our sins.
How can we show this gratitude for what God has saved us from? Do we live in appreciation of the power of His Holy Spirit? The power to continue His work. This power that keeps convicting? Do we see the Kindness of God, in the convicting of sin-bad attitudes, laziness, selfishness, pride, irritability, impatience, and more?
As I look at Psalms 143:8-12 this morning, seeking God for guidance, requesting so much from the Lord, but the last five words of this chapter, strike me profoundly.
“FOR I AM YOUR SERVANT”
It’s a submissive response to a Holy God. We cry out for needs, and in distress, hardships, recall His wonderful works, and this is so important. But to end on these last five words, reflects, the heart of the Psalmist. What God desires for each of us.
We know the love of God, the example of the great length Christ Jesus went to, as a humble suffering servant, in obedience, with joy, He endured the cross for us! Therefore, in complete gratitude, no matter what God calls us to walk through, we are called, to humble ourselves and trust in submission to Him through our personal trials and sufferings, and say,
“I AM YOUR SERVANT”
Professing, we are devoted, and remain faithful to our God. That we are committed to serve the Lord with gladness. With the joy of our Salvation.
As our sons were out cleaning up paint chips, this bag busted the seams. It was flawed. As I mentioned, the recent position as overseer of the home (job site), I was called to repair the equipment.
I busted out my sewing kit. Worked away. I found it very sweet, as my son Maximus stood over me, watching. He seemed amazed that “mom” was taking a piece of equipment as such, mending, and though not perfect, it did the job, and this bag was again useful for the work.
I confess, my own usefulness in this day, could have been very much hindered. I started out the morning reading anew Proverbs 31. Noting under extra pressures of life, my attitude has been challenged. Flawed. The Holy Spirit had convicted, brought me to a much needed cleansing, and newness of life. These recent days of trials, has been chipping away at my flesh, and cleaning me up, and bringing me nearer to Christ. That’s the promised work of the Lord.
Which enabled me, to oversee this job site, repair this bag with a joy, and thanking God for His giving us women the call to the Proverbs 31 life.
As I sewed away, these portions of scripture came to me from Proverbs 31.
“She seeks wool and flax, AND WILLINGLY “WORKS” WITH HER HANDS.
Her hands holds the spindle. She opens her mouth with wisdom. She watches over the ways of her household. She fears the Lord. She is blessed.”
“FOR I AM A SERVANT OF THE LORD”
Why might we struggle to find joy in being servants of God?
Every wide variety of scenarios I have personally experienced, in my walk for 30 years, when my joy is being messed with, always goes back to where my focus is. Is it on Christ and His every Word, in obedience, trust, faith, being satisfied in Him? Or am I drawing from a well elsewhere that will leave me dried up and empty?
” For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps” 1 Peter 2:21.
None of us have arrived. One day, we will arrive to our final place of restoration and dwelling.
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Revelations 21:5
“that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Heb. 6:12
I hope you have a blessed day in the Joy of Jesus your Salvation.
