The Heart Monitor

I wore a heart monitor this month.  I was born with a congenital heart defect.  At 18 months of age, I went into heart failure and required emergency open heart surgery.

I also, turned 50 this month.  My heart has been monitored by specialists for all these years.  Even though my heart is patched, it is still leaky.  That leak has increased only so very slightly a few years back.   I am monitored, to make sure this leak does not increase, where I may need another heart surgery later on in life.

Every two years, I go in for an echocardiogram.  Getting a good picture of everything and comparing one season to another to see if there are any changes.  It was fun to hear the technician tell me “you have a very photogenic heart”.  It was easy for her to see between the ribs and straight to my heart. That’s good news!  The better the examination, the more confident in knowing how well my heart is working and what it may or may not need.

This year, the cardiologist recommended I also wear a heart monitor for two weeks.  The doctor will not only use the pictures taken, but pull up the results of the monitoring of rhythm, and together get a very thorough looking into every area, and see how well my heart is truly doing.

I think, as I often do, to the greater picture God wants us to view.  That is, our Spiritual condition of our heart.

You see, God chose to save me.  The Great Physician was there with me as an infant, helping me to get to the hospital in time, guiding the hands of those surgeons.  In recovery, there was another little one, that the Lord took to heaven.  I also, have a cousin who only lived with her heart condition to the age of 13, before she, having given her life to Jesus, flew into the arms of her Savior.

God chose me.  And if you are reading this today, HE CHOSE YOU.  He chose to create you!  He chose to give you a beating heart today!  He delights in using the things of life, to get our attention.  We all need to be Spiritually saved. Has he been getting your attention?  Drawing you to see the ways in which He has sustained your physical life?  Is He calling you to receive the new Spiritually healed heart He has to offer you?  Or perhaps drawing you to deeper commitment to examining your own life and ways in which He wants to continue His work in you?

Do you know Him?  He desires you to come and receive Him as Savior for the remedy, the healing, as the Great Physician of your Spiritual condition.  “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Rom. 3:23.  This condition of the heart/soul leads to death.  Receiving the Great Physician’s gift of Salvation, set free from the debilitating sin condition, mending the hole in your Spiritual heart , only He can fill, will mean, everlasting life!  This is GOOD NEWS!  To see our sin condition, and see the Savior Who saves, GOOD NEWS indeed!

Somehow through my own story of heart failure in the physical, the Lord used, amongst many other pieces of life, to draw me to an understanding of my Savior’s love for me at an early age.  Not only my Savior’s love for me, but my great, desperate need for Him.  Repenting of my sin, and turning to Him, and thanking Him for His forgiveness, grace, mercy, in this process.

As a Believer, we willingly, go daily to our Great Physician to examine our hearts.  We desire for Him to continue monitoring us closely.  We desire Him to mend and heal, and strengthen our hearts to greater things for His purposes and glory.

We have to be in a position of humility, and going to Him.  Just as we go to a doctor and ask Him to help us figure out what is wrong, and hopefully help us to better health.  As we head to the Lord Jesus, in His Word, through prayer, and honest request that He examine us, He is THE FAITHFUL PHYSICIAN who will reveal the hidden, intricate areas of our Spiritual hearts, that need some further surgery.

I am thankful for celebrating 50 years of life, and know it is only because of the Lord, I am here.  I know this life is fleeting, and He has called me to make it count.

I know, the greatest need for all mankind is Salvation.  I know the joy of having a loving Savior, though sometimes very painful, as He cuts away, and reshapes my Spiritual organ of my heart, it is for my good, and for a more vibrant, healthy life.  I know it is because He is lovingly preparing me for eternity with Him.

If you are reading this today, I pray you have received the Lord as Your Savior.  If you have not, what are you waiting for?

We are not promised tomorrow.  Or even another minute.  Will you receive this gracious work of Jesus Christ?

Then, together, we can rejoice, and say, “being confident of this very thing, that He who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ.” Phil. 1:6

And we will gladly open our heart, and ask the Lord to continue daily, to be our HEART MONITOR – ONLY A PERFECT GOD can know the depths of the intricate workings of the people He created, by His wisdom, love, and power.  Only through faith in Jesus Christ, and receiving Him as Lord, can we have this new life in Him.

The bible speaks of people who talk a good talk about religion, God, and works.  But God says, their hearts are far from Him.  Our hearts are deceptively wicked, apart from Christ.

“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”

Matthew 15:8

“The heart is deceitful above all things
    and beyond cure.
    Who can understand it?

“I the Lord search the heart..”

Jeremiah 17:9-10

May the Lord Jesus continue to:

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Ps. 510:10

“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
 And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.”

Ps. 139:23

Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart,
All you who hope in the Lord”

Ps. 31:24
