Not Poolside But Completely Satisfied

Yesterday’s bible study notes at 10:00 a.m. here at the headquarters of home sweet home, Schooling on the Rock.

“A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.  Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise You.  Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.
Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.
My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.”

Psalms 63:1-8

Meditate on God – Joy in the Fellowship of God

David rose immediately and thought about God.  He was eager to be with God all day long, he was in a situation that was very difficult.

David knew seeking God was the best thing to do in his difficulty.  He was active in his faith.

Verbs that show David took action:

  1. In verse 2 David “LOOKED”.  He took his eyes off his problems and LOOKED to see God’s power and glory.
  2. In verse 3 David  “PRAISED” God, not while he is sitting by a pool having a joyous time in perfect conditions, but he PRAISED God in the lonely desert, dry and thirsty, because he knew God is loving, kind, and powerful.
  3. In verse 4  David “LIFTED” his hands toward the sanctuary where God sits on His throne in total control. Lifted hands is an outward expression of the heart that is lifted to God, and sending praises directly to Him.  David is still in the desert. God is still and always on His throne.

After these verbs and taking action in his faith, David uses an adjective (Isaac caught this one!)

  1. In verse 5 David’s soul  “shall be” –  “SATISFIED”.  The situation has not changed, but because he seeks after  the Lord, he knows He has been satisfied in the sanctuary of God before, and He knows He will be again.  His heart is filled with the Goodness of God.

More faith in action verbs:

David REMEMBERS God(how quickly we forget to think of God and think about our problems), MEDITATES, FOLLOWS, CLINGS.   He continued to CLING to God. BELIEVED God.  God was actively HOLDING him, HELPING, and PROTECTING his life and so much more.

It is good and satisfying to spend time with God, looking to Him.  He is all these things and more for me.

David rested in God’s SOVEREIGN will.  So will I.
